Before ordering, check what the fence needs to do. For privacy, taller solid panels such as closeboard are usually the strongest starting point. For value, waney lap panels are a practical choice. For front gardens, picket fencing and lower panels keep the boundary open while still marking the space.
Posts, gravel boards, fixings and post mix should be chosen to suit the panel height, ground conditions and exposure. Taller panels need suitable support, gravel boards help protect timber panels from damp at ground level, and gates need strong posts because they move every time they are opened and closed.
